FPAC and Stuff September 18, 2009

:O so I went to the Festival of Philippines Arts and Culture this past week.  Honestly it was the first time going to a Filipino festival xD  Was nice, I really wanted to buy some of the books though, but they cost so much.

Those books reminded me that there’s practically nothing in the chain brick and mortar stores here.  I mean Filipino’s are the 2nd largest Asian demographic in the United States but there’s hardly anything in the bookstores.  Anything from Rizal has to be ordered at the counter.  This was when I lived in Long Beach, so maybe its different here, but I seriously doubt that.  I remember staring at the Asian History section and seeing Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and no Philippines.  I don’t think I have go to the counter and request anything, it should just be there, especially since Filipino’s were no minority in Long Beach >:

I know Filipino’s have been in Riverside since Riverside has been Riverside, but again, its practically Middle America.  My best bet would be San Diego, if they don’t have anything I’m not sure what to think.  And I don’t know if its just because Boarders and Barnes & Nobles aren’t aware how many Filipino’s there are in California, or if its just because Filipino’s tend not to buy books on the History of the Philippines (from chains at least)…

Other then that, I found my Godmothers address and phone number :D   We’re thinking of just surprising her with Christmas gifts instead of calling first :3  I want to make a shawl since she made so many things for me, but I’m not sure what the weathers like in Hawaii, so I have no idea if it should be very lacey and light or somewhat heavy, maybe I’ll just ask Hawaiian Ravelers.  I have some pattern suggestions on my other blog, but I still really need to narrow it down and get started as soon as possible.

Also quizzeh!  I’m not surprised 8D

So I realized my head is abnormally big :D

Rather if you were able to felt my hair into a ball it would be equivalent to an adult sized head, with hair to spare (creepy visual o_o).

I ended up finishing the Hat Numero Two hat and realized how cute it was.  So I decided to try it on only to come to terms with the fact that it doesn’t fit my head ;_;  More then that, it didn’t even touch my head, the hat just kind of floated at the back of my head hanging onto my hair.  It was literally something like 3 inches away form my scalp and sitting on top of nothing but crazy frizzy hair.  Which made me sad ;_; (pity me) and made me realize I really needed to get a haircut :D , I’m thinking of going super super short again :3

So in the meantime, I adding another row of decreasing puffs and starting another project with some bulky yarn I have.  I plan on either making some cute fingerless gloves or a scarflette, and I have to decide on knitting or crocheting.

So a while back (last year?) I found this photograph (rather a vignette) of an orange, Malaise de L’Orange by ~weem.  Anyway, at the time I thought it was cute ^_^ it was a project for the artists multimedia class and they put up a video of the completed project on youtube XD so cute and funny~

Malaise de L’Orange

and since were on the subject of citrus o_O urm, I’ve been on a bit of a softie/plushie binge and found Tangerine and Sons by ~FrealaF on DA.  Its so cute, she did each individual tangerine segment and they all go into the tangerine :3 it has a little zipper in the back where they all fit.

Now onto crochet~  Lei wanted pics of my hat (rasta, tam, beret or whatever the hell it is x_x) so I decided just to post it here lol eheh, which reminds me I still haven’t sent them to Lei.  I wanted to try sewing a cloche, only if I make it I’d want to wear it, and my head’s just too big and my hair is just too unruly for me to be wearing something like a cloche TT_TT  I think I’ll opt for a newsboy if I’m gonna sew a hat.

I started from the top/center and worked my way around, the top/back (?) of it is just double crochet then the puff stiches then the weave (woven?  a.k.a. front and back post) stitches then single and you’re done :3.  Here’s the pattern if you wanna try.  Mine’s just modified a little with the woven stitched and enlarged a bit to accommodate my big head lol.  Mine’s also in acrylic since its my first hat and I wanted to just check out how it would turn out :3  Hrmm, I’ve been meaning to get a foam head to put my hats on (and for sewing a mask, mmm foamy usefulness)  but I haven’t been able to find a place that sells them around here, and I don’t really want to buy online, so my lamp will just have to do.

And as long as were along the lines of crochet and softies~ Nelly and her wiener (right) by *ip2much on deviantART is probably one of my favorite amigurumi’s on DA done by an incredible artist whose name is just a little disturbing :D .  She also did Mary had a little beaver… (left), the story is urm interesting LOL.
